Frequently Asked Questions
Below if a list of our frequently asked questions. If you don't find
the answer to your question, please give us a call or write us an email
and a sales representative will be happy to help you.
- What is Xenon light?
The
xenon bulb is a micro discharge bulb filled with a mixture of noble
gases including Xenon. The bulb has no filament as is the case with a
halogen lamp. The light is created by striking an arc between 2
electrodes. The xenon lamp needs a starter for quick ignition and an
electronic ballast to function properly. - What are the advantages of Kelvin® HID's over traditional halogen bulbs?
More Light Output
A 35-Watt Xenon H.I.D. lamp produces up to 3x the lumens of light source when compared to a 55-Watt halogen bulb.
Whiter Light
While the halogen light appears yellow-ish, the HID lighting system produces a light that is closer to that of natural sunlight.
Increased Visibility
In
most night time driving and/or bad weather situations, this combination
of a whiter color and a greater light output allows for a safer and
more illuminated drive. The light output spread is far more then
compared to a regular stock halogen bulb.
Reduced Power Consumption
HID lamp systems draw significantly less power from your vehicle's electrical system.
Greater Product Life
HID
lamp systems are designed to outlast your vehicle. On average, these
bulbs will last 3-5 times longer than a traditional halogen bulb.
Distinctiveness
Your
vehicle will not only have the latest in automotive lighting
technologies, but also have that unique eye-catching appeal. Currently,
only high-end vehicles offer this Xenon H.I.D. lighting systems. - Can I re-install the original halogen bulbs after the HID kit has been installed?
- With
the growing popularity of leasing vehicles, a big concern is whether or
not you can bring the vehicle back to its original factory condition.
Our kits install with little or no modifications to your vehicle. If
need be, the entire kit can be removed and the original halogen bulbs
can be replaced. This kit can be re-installed into another vehicle that
uses the same bulb size.
Can I Install the kit myself?- For
anyone who is mechanically inclined, this installation is considered
do-it-yourself. While a typical installation takes approximately an
hour, it can vary depending on application (conversion or auxiliary).
Our kits are ready to install right-out-of-the-box and come complete
with everything that you will need. We also provide you a full set of
easy-to-read, step-by-step instructions to guide you.
I have Angel Eyes right now, can a H.I.D. conversion kit still be installed?- Yes, HID conversion kits will fit cars with angel eyes. However, we do recommend that the kit be installed by a professional.
- Why can I not just replace the halogen bulb in my vehicle with HID lamps without having to purchase the entire kit?
- Motorcycles
and automobiles currently use a 12 Volt electrical system for their
headlamps. H.I.D. lighting systems require over 20,000 volts to ignite
the bulbs. Once lit, they only require 12 volts to keep running. Our
kits include a power pack that is necessary for the lamps to turn on.
The input of the power pack is 12 volts. It is an integral part of the
system.
How long will these bulbs last?- HID
lamps are designed to last for the life of your vehicle. They will run
for approx 3000 hours. Our lamp kits and bulbs are made of the finest
materials available.
Why were the Xenon bulbs developed?- The
car over the last decade has been made safer and more comfortable with
the introduction of such technologies as ABS, airbags and
air-conditioning. However 60% of all accidents take place in the dark.
Therefore vehicle lighting plays a very big role in road safety. It is
a fact that a 60 year old requires 10-11 times the amount of light to
perform the same functions as a 20 year old. With the increase in the
average age of the population more light is required to drive safely.
Are these HID light systems street legal?- Every
country and jurisdiction has its own rules and regulations governing
the use of automotive lighting. Xenon H.I.D. lighting systems that are
supplied with the vehicles from the factory are DOT / E approved. The
same OEM manufacturers that supply all the major car companies of the
world also make our kits. NO XENON H.I.D. lighting system available
from ANY source is DOT / E approved if installed outside of the
factory. These kits are not street legal for use on public roads as
they are. As a result, we officially endorse the kit for exhibition and
off-road use and will only sell the kit to be used for these purposes.
We are not responsible for customers who violate the terms of sale in
which they will assume all responsibilities for any unauthorized or
unintended use other than exhibition or off-road use.
Where can I get H.I.D. conversion kits installed?- Florida Custom Tinting recommends the installation be done by a professional if you have no experience working with cars. Most vehicles are a fairly simple do-it-yourself plug & play installation, but there are certain vehicles that are more difficult. If you are local or located near the Orlando, Florida area, you can call us to set up an installation appointment.
